General Summary:
Patagonia Sportswear builds product to reflect our mission of saving the home planet, that serve customers in our sport communities and those aligned with our values. The Sportswear product lines showcase transformative agriculture, combatting the waste crisis, and driving the circular economy to challenge business as usual and the fast fashion model. Partnering with the VP Life Outdoors, it is the Sportswear Category Sr. Director’s responsibility to shape the Sportswear vision and manage the business to connect Patagonia’s shared values with existing and new customers. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for annually drafting a global business plan for M’s and W’s Sportswear that promotes SER initiatives and drives sales/distribution strategy, marketing support, seasonal line plans and product activism. You will use your strong cross-functional relationships across the organization to align and put these plans into action.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with the VP Life Outdoors to steer the Sportswear vision, strategic objectives and financial targets while ensuring transparency and aligning global teams and channels throughout the process.
- Build short, mid and long-term business plans to achieve fiscal year business goals for revenue, margins, P&L and inventory management.
- Be a relentless advocate for the Sportswear customer, ensuring products are developed from ideation to end-customer, that meet the highest level of quality and lowest Environmental P&L (eP&L) requirements possible.
- Plan product lines (including outerwear, fleece, and casual sportswear) in collaboration with your Sportswear Category Directors and Outdoor Sport team product leads and ensure product and marketing goals advance company-wide brand goals.
- Work with the Sportswear Category Marketer to craft seasonal messaging that exemplifies best in class Sportswear storytelling and communicates authentically with the Sportswear community.
- Provide regular business updates to the VP Life Outdoors and other key leaders when necessary.
- Synthesize data, identify key market developments and customer insights, and prepare analysis to support senior leadership decision-making.
- Establish a close working relationship with your Category Director peers to collectively ensure a strong brand experience.
- Partner with other leaders across the company to develop forward-looking company strategy and build a culture of cohesion and inclusion.
- Develop functional and social skills of direct reports.
- Identify and prepare talent in the respective Category for career progression within the organization.
- Develop and nurture other brand/non-profit/NGO partnerships that advance public policies that foster a vibrant, just and sustainable economy and society.
- Represent the category internally, to the media and the public as an advocate and ambassador for Patagonia.
- Most importantly, your contributions in this role must directly support our mission to save the home planet.

Experience You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience leading diverse and global teams with proven record of inspiring, coaching and setting a framework for performance and growth.
- 10+ years experience in category leadership with proven merchant skills building best in class assortments that authentically represent the brand.
- Deep understanding of the sportswear apparel, outdoor industry, and active market (key consumer trends and moments, aesthetic, preferences, relevant brands, industry collaborations, brand history, etc.)
- Proven experience building a purpose-driven business. This role plays a critical role in our ability to deliver on our mission.

Pay range: $208,000 – $312,000 USD Annually
Hiring range: $250,000 - $280,000 USD Annually
At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
