Trek Travel provides global multi-day cycling vacations of a lifetime with the goal of helping more people explore and experience the world by bike. We are looking for an experienced and self-starting Senior Accountant to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin. 

The senior accountant will perform general accounting activities, including preparation of monthly and annual financial statements as well as the reconciliation and maintenance of accounts. 

In this role, the Senior Accountant prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions and ensures integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with company policy and GAAP. A successful Senior Accountant will be a high-level thinker, and a detail-oriented individual who is willing to perform various levels of work as we scale our business.

POSITION RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Core Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Generate ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as requested by management.
  • Maintain and reconcile the organization's balance sheet accounts on a regular basis. 
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies related to balance sheet.
  • Ensure adequate level of internal controls over financial information.
  • Oversee the acquisition, depreciation, and disposal of company assets.
  • Conduct regular asset audits and assessments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and file state and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations that may affect the organization.
  • Develop and oversee 3rd party credit card coding system. 
  • Owner of proper expense coding and receipt collection per company policy and GAAP.
  • Assist with yearend close while working closely with CFO and outside tax firm.
  • Become expert with our ERP system and be the “go to” person for all finance related processes.
  • Participate in the implementation of compliance recommendations.

OTHER:

  • Ability to synthesize your findings and present to senior team as needed.
  • Communicate out and train on company expense standards on a regular basis. 
  • Assist with onboarding new employees on finance related material. 
  • Work alongside CFO on continually improving our ERP and EPM software related to role.

WHAT ELSE WE’D LIKE TO SEE FROM YOU:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in progressive accounting roles. 
  • Experience in mid to large ERP systems, NetSuite experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of the travel and cycling industry, highly desirable but not mandatory.
