Tanganyika’s Grounds Technician will be responsible for working with the Grounds Team for maintaining all horticulture and landscaping of Zoo grounds along with overseeing the horticulture team.
 
Please note this position is seasonal and will go from 03/01/2024 to 11/16/2024
 
Requirements:
• High school diploma or combination of education and hands-on experience that provides the required skills for the position 
• Valid Driver's License 
• Preference given to candidates with previous grounds/horticulture experience 
• Excellent public speaking and customer service skills 
• Desire to grow as a team member, animal keeper, and human being 
• Ability to stand or walk and be able to perform physical work outside in all weather conditions 
• Ability to bend, stoop, and lift 50-75 pounds when necessary 
• Ability to work long hours, weekend, weekdays, holidays, and everyday 
 
Desired skills, experience, and individual qualities:
• Major responsibilities include lawn maintenance, irrigation service, plant knowledge and care, tree care, and water treatment 
• In this role, you will work and assist in all Grounds/Horticulture Department task(s) 
• Escorts contractors behind scenes; including communicating to Zoo staff when entering and exiting an area, and contractors clean up before leaving 
• Run errands for materials, etc., as needed 
• Clean and maintain tools, equipment and work area; prepare equipment as needed 
• Maintain records and prepare daily activity reports 
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems needing maintenance or repairs 
• Perform submitted maintenance requests 
• Operate various pieces of equipment such as lawn maintenance equipment, excavators, skid steers, tractors, truck and trailers and other equipment as needed 
• Consistently provide exceptional customer service 
• Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Starting hourly rate of $14.25/hr with pay modifiers for prior experience
