POSITION OVERVIEW


This position is located in the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division and is responsible, with the medical provider, for ensuring the delivery of health care in a timely and clinically appropriate manner to inmates and or staff.  Ensures those served receive consistent and appropriate care in accordance with established local, federal and state policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines.  Provides professional medical care to inmates based on their specific needs. This position is supervised by the Detention Center Clinic Director.  


QUALIFICATIONS


This work requires knowledge of the principles and practices, theories, laws and authorities of corrections nursing, professional nursing, and medicine that includes: medical terminology, diagnostic and preventative techniques; pharmacology; communicable disease follow up and interventions;  immunizations; operation and maintenance of equipment used in patient care; community resources; health care records management; interpersonal relations; health education and counseling; Detention Center policy and procedures; inmate rights; common safety hazards and precautions; and the ability to apply knowledge; maintain accurate medical charts and records; handle sensitive and confidential information; communicate effectively both in writing and verbally; responds to emergency situations; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  This position is required to make independent determinations that could have significant ramifications and must possess excellent verbal and written skills.  Position requires use of a variety of medical equipment and tools.  


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


The required knowledge and skills are generally acquired through a combination of education and 
experience equivalent to a minimum of an Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Professional Nursing, Certification at a minimum as a RN and two (2) years of job related work experience.  Requires licensure granted by Montana State Board of Nursing or equivalent.

Excellent Medical Health Benefits – Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees.  The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees.   The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees.  The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $205.00 per pay period.
Medical deductible is $400 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.  
Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Gallatin County provides 240 hours of PPL to eligible full-time employees.  The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.

Licenses and Certifications:  Position must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver’s license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County’s liability policies.
