Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Recreation Services Leader in the Department of Parks and Recreation. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision, responsible for organizing, leading, and ensuring that recreation programs, activities, events, and services are delivered in a safe and effective manner; and performs related duties as assigned.

Salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • One (1) year of full-time equivalent work experience in recreation programs, which includes six (6) months as a supervisor or in a lead capacity
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered 
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Possess and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within sixty (60) days of hire (unless assigned to Aquatics)
  • Desirable: Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Public or Business Administration, Social Services, or a closely related field 
  • In addition to the certifications listed above, you will be required to obtain and maintain various certifications within established timelines and based on assignment as a condition of continued employment as follows: 
    • When assigned to Aquatics (at time of hire unless otherwise noted):
      • Lifeguard, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Emergency Oxygen Administration, and Bloodborne Pathogens
    • When assigned to Outdoor Recreation:
      • Southern Nevada Health District Health Card within thirty (30) days of hire
      • Top Rope Rock Wall, Archery Range Master through National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), and Wilderness CPR, within six (6) months of hire
    • When assigned to Senior Nutrition:
      • Southern Nevada Health District Health Card within thirty (30) days of hire
      • ServSafe within six (6) months of hire 
  • Desired Certifications (varies by assignment)
    • Certified Youth Sports Administrator (Sports and Field Allocations or Outdoor Recreation)
    • Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) (Special Events/Cultural Arts)
    • Aquatic Certifications:
      • Swim Lesson Instruction
      • Springboard Diving
      • Swim Coach
      • Arthritis and/or Water Aerobics instruction
  • All required licenses and certifications, as mandated by state and federal laws or regulations or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained at the incumbent's expense
