Power To Be is a non-profit organization that creates access to nature for youth, families, and adults living with cognitive, physical, financial, and social barriers. The Program Facilitator supports and co-facilitates participant-centered outdoor recreation programs locally and in more remote locations. Primary responsibilities of the position include Wilderness School program facilitation, participant care, facilitating risk management and program logistics, supporting intake and administration, and working with volunteers and community partners. This position includes leading multi-day trips and expeditions and requires consistent evening and weekend work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programs


  • Facilitate programming and support participants in a way that is consistent with the mission, values and policies of Power To Be.

  • Assist with developing and implementing programs and curriculum (including preparation) for a variety of participants that support their abilities, expand their horizons and enrich their quality of life.

  • Consider and adhere to risk management and participant protection policies and procedures in programmatic decision-making.

  • Assist with any program or staff incident reviews where requested.

  • Maintain proper program procedures and paperwork; ensuring ethical guidelines, participant protection, privacy protection, risk management and other related policies and procedures are followed always.

  • Provide timely assistance in administrative functions such as pre-program documentation, progress reports, external and internal communications, log books, vehicle use, receipt management, participant files, and program evaluation and tracking.

  • Understand and use program systems and events calendars.

  • Support the direct care and maintenance of Power To Be equipment, vehicles, facilities, electronics and other assets.

Operations


  • Be a support to co-workers, volunteers and stakeholders; assist co-workers with their responsibilities in their absence as required.

  • Contribute to a positive and dynamic working culture congruent with the values of Power To Be.

  • Participate in meetings as required.

  • Adhere to all Power To Be policies and guidelines, and applicable legislation as they relate staff and volunteer practices.


  • Understand, and implement proper fiscal controls for program expenses.

  • Submit all documentation in a timely fashion.

Performs other related duties, as required.

Job Requirements


  • As per the Ministry of Justice requirements for organizations that work with vulnerable populations, A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

  • Minimum of two years of experience facilitating outdoor recreation programming

  • Experience with youth and family work.

  • Experience with people that live with a barrier and/or disability or other significant life challenge(s).

  • Demonstrated competency in outdoor pursuits including canoeing, sea kayaking and hiking.

  • SKGABC Level 2 certification or higher.

  • Current Wilderness first aid and CPR-C certification.

  • Proficiency in the use of computers including Office 365 and the internet.

  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s license with a minimum of two years safe driving experience.

Assets:


  • Post-secondary education in a related field.

  • Working knowledge of trauma-informed care, behavioural intervention, progressive curriculum and/or risk management practices.

  • NLS and/or Bronze Cross.

  • Experiencing using a CRM or database use.


Terms of Employment:

Location: 4633 Prospect Lake Road (on-site with some remote/ hybrid work available)

Position: Program Facilitator

Reports to: Program Lead

Term: Up to 18 Months

Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: $50-55,000.00
