Description

The current vacancy is for a full-time position at 40 hours a week. Shifts will be on nights and weekends and may include holidays. 

This job classification description is intended to be generic in nature and not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities.  The specific tasks/duties may vary based on position assignment and as determined by the Town of Queen Creek.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Positions assigned to this class are responsible for providing security for the general public and Town employees in and around Town buildings, facilities, parks and property.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an intermediate level park ranger classification in the park security job family. Incumbent(s) demonstrate working knowledge of routine work applications and troubleshooting/diagnosis, working independently and referring more complex issues to superiors. Assignments require learned skills and a good technical understanding of the basics.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification.  While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.

 

  • Patrols Town buildings, facilities, parks and property and performs security duties to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies; reports damage, vandalism, misuse and graffiti.
  • Verifies park user permits ensuring reserved facilities are available as scheduled in a safe and clean condition.
  • Open and close park facilities ensuring facilities are secure and appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains clear, accurate and concise reports including, but not limited to incidents, programs, activities, enforcement actions, and related documents.
  • Assists in the identification and resolution of safety and maintenance issues within town-owned properties.
  • Promotes park cleanliness, check and monitor park restrooms, activities, enforcement actions, and related documents.
  • Guides and counsels park patrons/program participants on park/program rules, care of equipment and acceptable conduct in a helpful, positive manner; assists park patrons/program participants in providing information, direction, and education and responds to complaints, inquiries, and information requests.
  • Attends staff meetings as required; seeks out and attends training/learning opportunities to gain additional knowledge in specific areas of responsibility.
  • Submits ideas and suggestions relevant to improving parks, park maintenance, safety concerns, and future parks planning.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Driver’s License;
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications;
  • Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.

Special Requirements:

  • This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Methods, principles, objectives, and standard practices of park security and maintenance;
  • First aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreational activities;
  • Standard office equipment including the computer and programs relevant to the performance of applicable duties and responsibilities;
  • Customer service principles.

SKILLS

  • Interpreting rules and regulations and apply them to practical situations;
  • Solving problems and making sound decisions;
  • Using computers and related software applications;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
