Peak Adventures’ purpose is to kindle personal growth, leadership, and connections through experiences in the outdoors.
 

ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.

SUMMARY: The Outdoor Trip Leader I/II/III is responsible for supporting and managing operational, logistical, and participant needs for Peak Adventures Outdoor Trips and Clinics. This role involves assisting with equipment maintenance, conducting comprehensive equipment inventory, supporting equipment purchases and repairs, as well as overseeing the planning and implementation of outdoor trips. The OTL is expected to provide exemplary customer service, ensure safety through risk management decisions, and meet all trip operational requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

OUTDOOR TRIP LEADER I

Responsibilities:

  • Safely perform job duties
  • Time Management: Efficiently manage and organize personal schedules to align with predetermined work availability, ensuring seamless coordination and timely completion of tasks.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Cleaning: Assist with equipment maintenance, ensuring outdoor gear is in good working condition. This includes general cleaning responsibilities.
  • Customer Service: Assist Front Desk Staff with prepping and distributing rental equipment.
  • Inventory Support: Help maintain the equipment inventory and assist with tracking gear.
  • Basic Trip Assistance: Provide support during outdoor trips and clinics, offering assistance as needed. Including the ability to collect and process liability waivers.
  • Equipment and Trip Research: Assist with researching equipment purchases, repair options, and trip logistics.
  • Obtain Certifications: Begin the process of obtaining Wilderness First Aid (or higher), Swift Water Rescue, Defensive driver training, Golf Cart Training, and a Food Handlers Certification.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

OUTDOOR TRIP LEADER II

Responsibilities:  In addition to the responsibilities listed above:

  • Equipment Management: Manage equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory, ensuring gear is ready for trips.
  • Trip Logistics: Collaborate in planning and executing outdoor trips and clinics, including coordinating logistics and itineraries.
  • Trip Leadership: Effectively lead day trips by oneself or with a co-lead; effectively co-lead overnight trips.
  • Customer Experience: Provide exemplary customer service to trip participants, addressing their needs and concerns throughout the trip. Additionally seek and provide educational opportunities.
  • Risk Management: Oversee risk assessment and decision-making to ensure participant safety during trips.
  • Maintain Certifications: Maintain a valid Wilderness First Aid (or higher), Swift Water Rescue, Defensive Driver Course Certification, Golf Cart Training, and Food Handlers Card.
  • Obtain advanced Skill Training: Begin the process of gaining skill sets in advanced recreation activities such as Rock Climbing and/or Rafting.

 

OUTDOOR TRIP LEADER III

Responsibilities: In addition to the responsibilities listed above:

  • Advanced Trip Leadership: Lead outdoor trips and clinics, both on and off-campus, including setting itineraries and managing logistics for advanced recreational activities such as Rock Climbing and/or Rafting. Requires completed task list for either Head Rock Guide or Head Raft Guide.
  • Risk Management Leadership: Take efforts to minimize risk by assessing conditions, ensuring participant readiness, and evaluating hazards.
  • Training and Skill Development: Provide comprehensive training support to participants, helping them acquire outdoor skills and knowledge.
  • Career Advancement: Mentor and support lower-level OTLs in their growth and development within the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma and 18 years of age
  • California driver’s license (Class C or higher)
  • Demonstrated competency in various outdoor skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as well as overtime and double time
  • (If Student Assistant Incumbent) Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at Sacramento State; maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA overall

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR Certification (American Red Cross)
  • First Aid Certification (American Red Cross)
  • Current Wilderness First Aid or higher certification
  • Other outdoor professional certifications
  • California Commercial driver’s license (Class C or higher) with a passenger endorsement
  • Experience on a variety of outdoors trips with a diverse outdoor skillset
  • Over 1 year of trip leading experience

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Outdoors exposed to rain, heat and cold temperature for 24 hours a day
