GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:


Program Manager of Outdoor Pursuits is a temporary supporting role. They are responsible for supporting student workers and managing the day-to-day operations of the Milky Way twice a week in September. The daily rate is $200 per day for an 8-hour day. They will support students in their day-to-day work. This includes rentals, packing for academic trips, packing for Outdoor Pursuits Trips, and daily tasks. They will also support trips and activities on campus.


 


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Support and manage student workers

  • Oversee rentals

  • Support and oversee gear for Academic program

  • Support and meet with student leaders for weekend activities and trips

  • Oversee the Milky Way operations

  • The position is temporary short-term position from mid-August to the end of September. This position works twice a week.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree in Experiential Education, Outdoor Education, Higher Education, or related field preferred.

  • 3-5 years of outdoor work as an instructor or higher-level leadership role.


 


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:



  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Experience with confidentiality, privacy, and appropriately maintaining records in line with federal, state, and local laws and best practices.

  • Use effective communication skills, taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

  • Demonstrates experience in EDI work in the outdoor adventure setting.

  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents including parents, faculty and trip participants.

  • Well developed knowledge of recreational resources and land use policies.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment – humor is welcomed!

  • Valid Driver’s License with clear driving record and ability to drive a van with trailer through city streets and on small forest service roads.

  • Certification in Wilderness First Responder (or higher) required.

  • Documented professional backcountry experience required. Please provide Outdoor Resume as well.

  • Technical training and certifications in outdoor adventure disciplines desired (i.e. WFR Instructor, ACA Instructor, Single Pitch Instructor.)

  • Computer skills in Excel, Word, Google Suite, basic web editing, etc.
