JOB SUMMARY
Unleash potential and joy in each camper by helping them build memories, skills, values and lasting friendships. As Kids Camp Counselor you will care for and guide campers ages 5-10 while engaging them in a safe and educational outdoor recreational experience. Work closely with the leadership team as well as campers to create a positive, engaging, safe, valuable and memorable camp experience for all.

The pay rate for this role is $15.00/hr
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership and supervision a small group of campers engaged in a safe and educational outdoor recreational experience.
- Build close relationships, be a positive role model, and facilitate physical and emotional safety ensuring them a pleasant camp experience.
- Role model leadership, character values and relationship-building skills in all interactions with campers and their families.
- Collaborate and coordinate with fellow camp staff in the weekly planning and implementation of all program activities while participating with the group.
- Work closely with the Teen Lead Counselor weekly, providing leadership opportunities and supervision of assigned Junior Counselors.
- Attend and contribute to all staff trainings, meetings, and events.
- Maintain a professional appearance and be prepared to make all parents, families, and campers feel comfortable with all questions answered. Provide a warm, caring atmosphere for children ensuring all of them are treated equally with dignity and respect.
- Work with leadership team to manage camper behaviors, use effective/appropriate discipline techniques, and ask for assistance as needed.
- Maintain a safe environment for all campers. In the event of an emergency, serve as a first responder (responding, reporting, and preventing.)
- Ensure camp licensing requirements are being followed along with all YMCA policies and procedures.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and camp facilities.
- Ensure the safety and whereabouts of all children and that safe conditions exist at all times while serving as a first responder for any type of injury or emergency at camp.
- Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
- βAdhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policyΒ violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Ensure children are properly signed in and out, ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
- Counselors must be at least 18 years of age and have completed high school or its equivalent as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
- Counselors must enjoy working with youth in an exciting outdoor environment, and have some demonstrated leadership abilities in this capacity.
- Must have good communication and organizational skills, a cooperative attitude and the ability to work with and understand the needs of children.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid are required prior to working with children.
- Considerable physical movement to include running, walking, hiking, swimming, games in an outdoor camp environment is required. As a first responder, the ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and/or lift at least 30 pounds with or without assistance is required.
