Description:
The City of Fishers is hiring Head Counselors for our Parks Department Summer Camps this summer season. As a Head Counselor, you will work closely with the Camp Coordinator to ensure your camp location meets the highest standards while serving as a key liaison between counselors and parents. In this leadership role, you will serve as a positive role model by setting a positive example, and assit with the delivery of an unforgettable summer camp experience for all campers.
Camps operate Monday - Friday. The Summer Season runs Monday, 6/2/2025 - Friday, 8/1/2025. New Head Counselors = $15.00 per hour. Returning Head Counselors will receive a step increase per year of service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure counselors uphold professionalism and monitor their daily responsibilities and performance.
- Conducts morning meetings and afternoon debriefs with counselors.
- Manage check-in and check-out procedure for enrolled campers.
- Supervise daily operations and planning for site staff.
- Completes administrative onsite paperwork (band-aid reports, medication logs, behavior reports).
- Maintain and check camp facilities, equipment, materials and first aid kit daily.
- Participates in pre-season training as well as assist with end of season clean-up.
- Act as primary liaison between camp and parents.
- Address medical and emergency needs of campers and staff as necessary.
- Oversee the well-being of campers while fostering a safe and supportive environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old by 6/2/2025;
- Must have at least 1 year/season experience working as a camp counselor or head counselor with the Fishers Parks Department;
- Requires mature judgment and the ability to safely oversee both children and counselors;
- Must have current CPR and first aid certification or ability to obtain (Training provided by the City of Fishers);
- Communicates clearly and effectively in both positive and challenging situations; actively listens and seeks clarification when needed; responds thoughtfully to questions; and demonstrates strong group presentation skills.
- Maintains a balance between team and individual responsibilities; demonstrates objectivity and openness to different perspectives; provides and welcomes constructive feedback; fosters a positive team spirit; prioritizes team success; encourages morale and commitment to shared goals;
- Must pass a complete criminal history background check as a part of our hiring process;
- Demonstrates adaptability in a dynamic work environment by effectively managing competing demands, adjusting methods to fit various situations, and navigating frequent changes, unexpected events, and delays with ease
Camps operate Monday - Friday 6/2/25 - 8/1/25 Please Note: We understand school schedules vary and have flexibility with start and end dates of employment depending on individual needs.
- Shifts are approximately 30 - 40 hours per week.
- 1/2 day camp shifts:
- Full-day camp shifts:
- 8am - 4pm
- 9am - 5pm
- 10am - 6pm
Supplemental Information:
- First Aid/CPR Certification will be offered as a part of the training process.
