Join our team of passionate adventurers in our commitment to empower our customers to connect with nature and foster a sense of exploration.  Our Grand Canyon backpacking guides lead groups from diverse backgrounds on three to six day overnight backpacking tours in Grand Canyon National Park. As a backpacking guide you will be responsible for ensuring group safety, establishing good rapport with guests, providing information about the Grand Canyon, preparing meals on trail, and providing an overall positive experience to our customers. 
 
The current position is for a seasonal guiding position in the Grand Canyon for the fall 2023 season (September - November. There is opportunity to extend the position into a multi-season guiding position depending on the alignment of career and work goals between you and our company. 
 
Responsibilities 
  • Guide multi-day backpacking tours in the Grand Canyon 
  • Pack and Prepare tours
  • Prepare meals on trail
  • Provide information and interpretation about regions you are hiking through
  • Provide medical care for guests when necessary
  • Manage clients physical and mental well-being during hikes
  • Portering Gear
  • Driving for Tours
Qualifications
  • Must have a valid and current Wilderness First Responder Certification
  • Backpacking/Hiking experience
  • 1+ year(s) guiding experience in any outdoor industry is strongly preferred
  • Education Degrees in or extensive knowledge of differing Earth Sciences & history including geology, astronomy, Native American History etc. 
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Great Communication Skills
  • Personable and Engaging - you will spend many days on your own in the backcountry with clients
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Valid Driver License
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Base backpacking equipment
  • Ability to hike extensive & tough mileage (10+ miles in a day)
  • Ability to carry a minimum of 55 lbs in a backpack - up to 80 lbs in select instances
  • Able to handle difficult group dynamics - groups tours can have clients of vary skill and cultural backgrounds
  • Live in Arizona or be willing to relocate for the season
