About the role:

The Director of Visual Merchandising is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, communication, and execution of the visual merchandising strategy at Christy Sports. This role blends the art and science of merchandising to bring to life compelling and brand-appropriate shopping experiences while driving sales, margin, and units per transaction. The position will work closely with Merchandising, Marketing, and Store Operations to document, communicate, coach and support the implementation of our strategy. The ideal candidate for this role possesses a strong aesthetic sensibility and is also a proven business operator that takes ownership and drives results.

Essential Functions:

Strategy, Team & Leadership

  • Lead the development of the Visual Merchandising Standards Directive and the Seasonal Concepts/Playbook to support our key business initiatives, while defining a clear Christy Sports brand aesthetic
  • Lead and develop a team of Visual Merchandisers and guide retail store staff responsible for the execution of merchandise and fixture placement .Manage and oversee the VM budget for travel, signage, fixturing and display elements.

Product Presentation

  • Partner with Real Estate and Store Development team to assess new stores, store layout, and fixturing consistent with the store customer profile
  • Develop a playbook for the optimal store layout for various lines of business and product categories
  • Help educate and train store management and teams on the implementation of concepts and organization of products
  • Develop a process to ensure optimal playbook adherence to create consistency and maximize the customer experience
  • Help define roles and responsibilities between buying, planning, marketing, stores and visual merch including what decisions/choices are required (pricing presentation) and what have degrees of freedom
  • Communicate updates and changes regarding product promotion, signage, pricing and implementation, in conjunction with store operations
  • Document and maintain the store backstock capacity for various products and categories
  • Determine when/how to use vendor supplied materials (i.e. display racks, promotional materials, etc)

Reporting & Communication

  • Analyze sales trends and test/learn/scale according to business results
  • Optimize and refine store layout and provide input to allocation, backstock and assortment mix alongside Merchandising, Planning, and Store Operations
  • Provide feedback on merchandising assortment mix (color, print, brand mix)

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 5-10 years experience leading Visual Merchandising for a multi-store retailer
  • Someone who likes to go the extra mile while collaborating with cross functional teams on a shared roadmap
  • Understand the nature of a dynamic, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, solve problems and anticipate challenges
  • A good human who values working with cross department partners
  • A plus, a motivated outdoor enthusiast who lives to share their passion with others

The budgeted range is $100,000-$120,000
