We are looking for an experienced Director of Sales & Catering for the VOCO The Shelby Myrtle Beach. Seeking a strong leader, who knows how to sell, exceed sales and catering goals and expectations for our first boutique hotel in the heart of this vibrant coastal destination!  

VOCO The Shelby Myrtle Beach blends modern elegance with coastal charm, offering guests an unforgettable stay. Our boutique hotel promises personalized service, stunning accommodations, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. ABOUT THE ROLE 

As the Director of Sales & Catering, you will plan, manage, and control the Group Sales and Catering efforts, to achieve customer satisfaction and meet/exceed sales, revenue and profit objectives. You will be responsible for short- and long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the group and catering business.

  • Inspire Your Team: Build, mentor, and motivate a dedicated team to deliver exceptional service, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. 

  • Innovate: Develop and implement creative marketing strategies to promote the hotel, attract guests, and enhance our brand presence. 

  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Oversee daily sales operation, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with industry and brand standards and regulations. 

  • Financial Stewardship: Manage marketing, advertising, sales plans, programs, and annual budget, optimizing revenue while controlling costs to drive profitability. 

SCOPE OF WORK + TEAM 

  • Reports to General Manager 

  • Dotted line to Corporate Sales Team 

  • Participate in community affairs and maintain a positive public image for Springboard Hospitality. Meet with potential and current clients and promote hotel. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Solicits, negotiates and books new and repeat business through various outside sales efforts including calls, direct marketing, referrals, property tours, networking, etc.; maximizing room revenue and catering revenue to meet/exceed goals 

  • Assists in developing, implementing, monitoring, and controlling the group and catering sales annual budget and marketing plans, analyzing competition, market trends and customer needs and comments; preparing and review forecasts, period and month-end reports and various sales and rate reports to continually assess the group and catering's productivity against the budget, plan and market 

  • Implements Springboard and VOCO brand and/or IHG company programs and directs the operations in a manner consistent with policies and procedures to meet/exceed budgeted room night, average rate and revenue goals while ensuring quality guest service 

  • Develops and continually enhances relationships with key corporate, business, association, wholesale, social, and travel industry accounts, community organizations and professional associations to maintain high visibility and increase our market share 

  • Possesses up–to-date knowledge in the marketing and sales profession, as well as the hotel and event industries; is regarded as an expert and/or proficient in the sales area and understands systems needed to succeed 

  • Experience developing effective proposals, RFP responses, contracts, BEOs, and other documents to communication with clients and the team 

  • Thorough knowledge of online distribution channels within both leisure and group segments 

  • Strong understanding of customer relationship principles and experience implementing operational CRM across company disciplines 

  • Acts as liaison with other departments in the hotel via weekly meetings to provide information in a timely manner and ensure group and catering needs are carried out as contracted 

  • Trains all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities to increase hotel occupancy and revenue 

  • Participates in trade shows and community and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and the achievement of sales and revenue goals 

  • Performs special projects and other responsibilities as assigned 

  • Participates in hotel committees, MOD program and task force assignments 

  • Manages employee relations in order to attract, retain and motivate any direct reports; hires, trains, develops, empowers, coaches and counsels, conducts performance and salary reviews, resolves problems, and provides open communications 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. 

  • Service-oriented with exceptional customer service and sales skills. 

  • Previous sales and marketing leadership responsibilities overseeing all related functions for an upscale or boutique property of comparable scale to VOCO, The Shelby 

  • Knowledge of travel trade industry, group markets and leisure segment including key contacts that would serve to source business for the property and that align with the profile and prestige positioning of The Shelby. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Upholds the brand's authentic, approachable, adventure-curious, and sociable characteristics 

  • Must be able to work during Springboard Hospitality business hours, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, while understanding that the hotel business functions 24/7 and some evenings, weekend and holiday work will be required
