ABOUT onX
As a pioneer in digital outdoor navigation with a suite of apps, onX was founded in Montana, which in turn has inspired our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone. With more than 300 employees located around the country working in largely remote / hybrid roles, we have created regional “Basecamps” to help remote employees find connection and inspiration with other onXers. We bring our outdoor passion to work every day, coupling it with industry-leading technology to craft dynamic outdoor experiences.
Through multiple years of growth, we haven’t lost our entrepreneurial ethos at onX. We offer a fast-paced, growing, tech-forward environment where ownership, accountability, and passion for winning as a team are essential. We value diversity and believe it leads to different perspectives and inspires both new adventures and new growth. As a team, we’re hungry to improve, value innovation, and believe great ideas come from any direction.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
onX is seeking a data-driven, solutions-oriented, and entrepreneurial Director of Growth Marketing who will drive growth across onX Hunt, onX Offroad, and onX Backcountry. In this role, you’ll be responsible for setting and delivering innovative growth strategies across the mobile growth stack to help onX achieve ambitious business objectives. You’ll lead teams that span paid acquisition, SEO, and CRO, and you will be responsible for developing new pillars of the team to expand our top of funnel growth strategies and accelerate business expansion. Beyond identifying new growth opportunities, this role includes strategic planning in collaboration with other teams (Product, Engineering, Finance, Business Development, etc); inspiring a team and company culture of innovation and high-velocity experimentation; accountability for performance marketing budgets; optimizing processes for scale; and growing and developing the leaders overseeing the specific functional growth marketing teams. We are looking for someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, bring positive energy to work daily, and drive performance from the team. This leadership role is critical to our company growth strategy and presents multiple opportunities to spearhead and/or support new initiatives. This position will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer.

WHO YOU ARE
  • Positive, Team-First Leader. You win as a team, focused on the performance and outcomes of the team as a whole, as well as the professional development of the individuals who make up the team. You listen to your teammates and team members; you work to empower, encourage and facilitate.
  • Innovative Growth Driver. You have demonstrable experience growing company revenue at least 5x during your tenure. You've built and managed paid media teams, retention/engagement teams, and/or organic growth teams across major platforms. You’re an expert in at least some aspects of social, display, search, video advertising, content marketing, and SEO. You have at least an intermediate understanding of retention and automation. You’ve collaborated with engineers and product teams to build impactful growth drivers. While you’re a master at digital advertising and will bring new ideas and approaches to the table in that realm, you’ll also look beyond pay-to-play for new levers to grow our business.
  • Proactive Collaborator. You are excellent at seeing opportunities to connect and collaborate with other departments and can turn opportunities into outcomes by bringing people together. You’re savvy at organizing people and projects, and you can work with many personality types to keep things moving.
  • Analytical Number Cruncher. You’re not afraid to dig into the data. You’re paying close attention to trends and know when to lean in and when to hold back; you’re able to maximize the impact of large budgets against membership goals and seasonality; and you have a perspective on how to track and drive marginal returns. You know how to take a data-driven approach, size an opportunity, and persuade stakeholders about business impact.
  • Balanced Thinker. You understand the balance between growth tactics and good branding and design. You know that long-term gains will require supporting and amplifying brand-forward strategies, even as high-velocity testing is critical for discovering step-change growth tactics.
  • Hypothesis Creator. Your ability to put yourself in the user's shoes (or boots) generates ideas for what type of creative or marketing approach we need to test, as well as where and when, to best resonate with the audience. You bring a Product Marketing lens to growth hacking.
  • Ambitious Executer. You’ve crushed company goals, and you’ve failed before too. You’re never complacent and are constantly pushing for improvements – not just in marketing but everywhere you can provide value.
As an onX Director of Growth Marketing, the day to day essential responsibilities look like:
  • Partner across onX to drive growth. Collaborate with functions within marketing (Marketing Operations, Vertical Marketing, Marketing Automation, Marketing Engineering, Brand, Design, etc.) as well as other departments (Business Intelligence, Product, Engineering, Customer Experience, Geospatial, etc.) to define growth plans and to improve our marketing reach, efficiency, engagement, and impact.
  • Oversee the User Acquisition Team and the Web Marketing Team. Each of these teams already has its own Leader in place, who you will guide, challenge, mentor, and develop. Overall, you will be accountable for the performance marketing budget and for the execution and strategy of this budget to grow the company. You will also be accountable for growing our business through our website via high-impact SEO and CRO, and for managing and optimizing our App Stores as the storefront and gateway that many users take to the product.
  • Hit growth targets. Ultimately, you and your performance marketing team will be accountable for a large portion of our new membership targets. With your team, you will define and own KPIs for targets and will iterate quickly to optimize and course correct as needed.
  • Find new top of funnel growth levers. You’ll partner with Product and Business Development teams and our Marketing Engineering team to accelerate product-led growth and growth via partnerships, and to double down on organic growth opportunities. You’ll ideate new growth strategies and programs to build additional high-impact pillars of your team.
  • Guide mobile growth stack development and oversee refinement of marketing attribution models. You are savvy in analytics and mobile technology, so you’ll help the company grow with its technology needs to enable effective marketing and the best funnel visibility possible, especially when faced with privacy roadblocks to attribution. This includes leveraging tool-sourced data, defining and facilitating new data flows, and evaluating incrementality.
