YMCA Camp Chingachgook is seeking a dynamic leader to fill the role of Community & Adventure Program Director. The Community & Adventure Program Director at the Capital District YMCA’s Camp Chingachgook fosters intentionally a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while building the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through creating and defining year-round programs and adventure trip programs while maintaining the culture and traditions of the Capital District YMCA’s Camp Chingachgook, and other duties as assigned. Anticipated start date after January 1, 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience
- Minimum three years’ experience working with youth, teens and adults in a leadership capacity
- Minimum two years’ experience managing staff
- Current certifications in CPR/AED, Wilderness First Aid & Level 2 climbing certification (ACT or high 5), or willing to be trained
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills
- Dynamic problem solver with exceptional leadership abilities who can empower staff to give superior customer service to guests, visitors and campers
- Possesses an entrepreneurial attitude seeking continual process improvement, revenue generation, and budgeting knowledge
- Previous youth development background.
- Moderate personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Strong interpersonal, relational, and verbal skills; public speaking experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Leads year-round programs with an emphasis on weekend programs, conferences, rentals, ATI trainings, outdoor education programs, special events/weddings, and professional retreats;
- Supports and assists with leadership and supervision of the overall summer camp program;
- Manages assigned program areas through recruiting and training of seasonal staff;
- Coordinate and implements safe and intentional programs that adhere to Y and camp-accredited policies, standards, and regulations, while overseeing facility preparation and hospitality, client communications, inter-departmental collaboration, and assisting with the evaluation and promotion of all Chingachgook programs;
- Works with Director of Operations to develop and control department budgets so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives and a positive fiscal position is maintained.
- Works alongside Director of Operations to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a full range of year-round and adventure programs and services;
- Ensures high quality participant-focused programs through innovative program development, demonstrating courageous and intelligent risk taking with awareness of societal, economic, and political issues and their impact on the strategic direction of the organization;
- Seeks new opportunities for revenue generation, cost controls, marketing, and relevance of programming;
- Develops lesson plans, and curriculum for all year-round and adventure programs;
- Manages climbing wall, high ropes course, low ropes course, and all accompanying equipment, while ensuring that safety inspections are completed yearly and staff are properly trained to utilize these areas;
- Assists in implementing summer programs and overseeing day to day logistics of overnight and day camp, ensuring that safety is observed and the goals of the program are met;
- Implements trainings, meetings and professional development opportunities as directed.
- Serves on branch council committees, YMCA P-Group and other committees, as requested;
- Participate and support all Y special events and fundraising activities, including the Annual Campaign, open houses, and camp programming at YMCA branches;
- Assists in promotion and marketing of year-round programs, adventure programs, & camper recruitment;
- Develops, produces, and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs and Association activities, in accordance with marketing plans and YUSA branding requirements;
- Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders, such as service groups, community organizations or companies, to support programs or projects;
- As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekend, evening, or night shifts and/or holidays in order to serve our campers, guests, and program participants; weekly schedule will vary based on program needs
- Maintains a safe work environment that is free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions;
- Reports all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests, and other employees;
- Educates community members about the charitable nature of the Y;
- Be the eyes and ears of our community, bringing issues forward of concern to our Y.
Salary: $60,405.80, plus private on-site housing included.
