Job Summary
The University of Kentucky’s Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering is recruiting for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-eligible Extension Title Series Assistant/Associate Professor in bioenvironmental engineering. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024, with a distribution of effort of approximately 60% extension, 30% research, and 10% instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an integrated, nationally recognized extension program with a focus on topics such as flooding during extreme events, stormwater management, low-impact development, low-cost sensors, green stormwater infrastructure, urban pollutant fate and transport, climate resilience, or other similar topics. The successful candidate is expected to: attract external funding to support extension efforts, including funding of graduate students; create a proactive, high-impact extension program that supplies clientele with relevant, state-of-the-art informational content; demonstrate commitment and ability to work with teams of researchers on interdisciplinary problems; teach one course per year; recruit and direct MS and PhD graduate students; and contribute to the multi-functional land-grant mission of the Department. Qualifications include: a Ph.D. in biosystems/agricultural engineering or a closely-related field with an emphasis in stormwater best management practices, low impact development, surface and subsurface hydrology, and/or water resources; a P.E. or demonstrate the ability to qualify for a P.E. in Kentucky; the ability to develop high-level independent extension program and oversee graduate students; ability to conceive and implement training and information programs for both technical and non-technical audiences; and demonstration of outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The position will remain open until filled, with a review date of applications beginning August 15, 2023.
