PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE
An After School Camp Counselor for our School Age Child Care (SACC) program is a Teacher or Aid serving as a positive role model who maintains safety, provides an encouraging experience, and leads their groups while counseling on campus and driving the campers to and from Peninsula Covenant Church. The Counselor will set up for camp activities at PCC, and then lead the campers in studies, snack times, and organized activities. The Counselor leads the way with building a strong reputation, encouraging relationships, and engaging in conversations that help people reflect and grow each day. These components make camp a memorable enrichment experience for campers and staff.

PRINCIPLE WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Under the direct supervision of the Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC) School Aged Child Care Program Manager, the After School Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety and supervision of their campers. They are a representation of PCC School Age Child Care to Redwood City families and the people who share the PCC campus with SACC.

SCHEDULE

  • Monday-Friday between the hours of 1pm and 6pm

  • Average of 3-4 hours/day, 1-2 hours longer on Thursdays (occasionally beginning at 11am)

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Command the attention of and lead camper groups throughout daily camp activities

    • Learn and enforce camp rules and policies 

    • Excellent with children and able to supervise up to 14 children

    • Help campers develop socially and emotionally

    • Engage campers in both individual and group activities



  • Create and coordinate unique group experiences  (group songs, camp traditions, group parties, etc.)

  • Leave it better than we found it

    • Setup, lead, and clean-up 3 to 4 camp activities per day

    • Manage and care for the assigned classroom

    • Ensure that each classroom is cleaned and prepared for the next ministry to use



  • If also a Driver (higher pay): Pick children up from schools and drive them to PCC (in PCC’s vehicles) safely, joyfully, and calmly

    • Safely navigate Redwood City to transport campers to PCC

    • Learn and enforce van rules



EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • If also a Driver (higher pay): Valid drivers license, clean driving record, meets the age requirement for school district driving, and able to drive a 9-seat passenger van

  • High School Degree and willing to take classes related to this role

  • Background check, medical clearance, and mandated reporter certified (brief online course) prior to start date

  • CPR/1st certified within 3 months of start date

  • Be outdoors for the majority of the time, wearing mandatory protective equipment for sun exposure (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc)

  • Stand and move around 90% or more or the workday - able to maintain a highly active position, interacting with children and helping them to develop strong social emotional skills every day (willing to PLAY)

  • Able to lift and transport up to 30 pounds of equipment

  • Provide energy and enthusiasm on a daily basis

  • Desired

    • 1+ year(s) experience working with children, ideally in a school or camp setting

    • Has completed 6+ units of ECE (Early Childhood Education), Physical Education, Psychology, or Sociology college course(s)

    • ECE courses in progress or interest in teaching and/or child counseling (wonderful way to gain experience and complete observations for courses)






Compensation: $18.25 - $21.00 per hour
