Job Details Job Location: CRC - Wheeling, IL 60090 Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.00 Hourly Job Title: Camp Counselor Job Status: Part Time – Non-Exempt Division: Recreation Primary Work Location: Community Recreation Center
- Reports To: Recreation Services Manager
Supervisory Responsibility: None Essential Job Duties
- Follow Lesson Plans and implement a variety of recreational activities for assigned amp group
- Follow assigned duties. Coordinate with Camp Director prior to camp start as needed
Understand principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation.
- Demonstrate ability to supervise children in recreational setting.
Learn and implement necessary policies or procedures of camp.
- Maintain control of the group using positive discipline techniques.
- Communicate regularly with the camp leader regarding the camp operations and incidents.
Notify Camp Leader of camp supply needs. Keeps first aid supplies with them at all times and notify camp leader of first aid supply needs. Complete all accident/incident forms correctly and notify Camp Leader. Stay with camp until all campers are released to parent or to after camp program. Accurately record attendance/dismissals.
Cooperate with other staff in a positive manner. Attend daily staff meetings. Work as scheduled.
- Provide a safe, engaging, and fun environment for all children and staff.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Supports and exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
- Coordinate assistance as needed from the Camp Leader and Camp Director.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Position Requirements Attends high school or college, must be 16 years of age. Prior camp experience. Prior experience working with children.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
Must be able to read, write and speak in English. CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days. Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, twist, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tool, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to walk on uneven grounds. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
Specific vision abilities are required and include close vision and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Working Conditions Employee may be exposed to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions. Driving to other park facilities will require the worker to be outside.
Employee may be exposed to chemicals or other potentially dangerous materials utilized in the manufacturing of arts and crafts or routine maintenance supplies. Employee may be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work areas.
