    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory.  Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

    VISITOR SERVICES:

    Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions.  Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations.  Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs and services via tours, walks and campfire programs.  Takes reservations for pavilions, cabins and youth camp.

    RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

    • Implements ecological burning plan for fire type plant communities; recognizes plant communities, and maintains fire lanes.  Implements vegetation and wildlife management plans, recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means.  Implements site restoration projects such as reforestation and erosion control.  Implements water resources management plan.

    MAINTENANCE:

    Constructs, maintains and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks and all other necessary facilities.  Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities.  Operates a variety of equipment including chainsaws, lawn mowers, ATVs, motor vehicles up to 2-ton class hauling debris, fill, etc.

    ADMINISTRATION:

    • Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects including fees, receipts, visitor use, visitor contacts, patrols, wildlife sightings and population counts, accidents, miscellaneous incidents, vehicle, boat and equipment operations, property records, purchase orders and requisitions, etc.  Answers telephone, operates radio equipment and maintains logs.  Performs administrative tasks via computer.

    PROTECTION:

    • Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof for the enjoyment of the visitor.
    • Performs related work as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    KNOWLEDGE OF AND ABILITY TO:

    utilizing motor vehicles

    ABILITY TO:

    successfully complete ranger academy successfully complete background and fingerprint check

    • perform physical labor utilizing power/electrical/gas tools and equipment

    work rotating shifts including nights, holidays and weekends deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations

    • maintain a valid driver’s license

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Valid driver’s license Successfully complete ranger academy

    Position of Special Trust Requirement:

    This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

    Pay:

    Base salary $2,896.67 plus $95.33 Competitive Area Differential month/$34,760.00 annual

    Thirty minutes from downtown Miami, this gorgeous park is bisected by its namesake waterway that winds through a natural oasis. Whether enjoying the 15 miles of off-road bicycling trails or paddling along lush mangrove forests, visitors find it difficult to believe that Oleta River State Park exists 30 minutes from downtown Miami.

    At just over a thousand acres, this natural oasis — Florida’s largest urban park — is a haven for mountain bikers, paddlers, anglers and swimmers. Enjoy a picnic along scenic Biscayne Bay or unwind at the end of a fishing pole. There are rustic, air-conditioned cabins, too, along with a youth campground for organized groups. The park is also a welcomed stop for long-distance paddlers on the 1,515-mile Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail.
