    Job Description

Ready to embark on an engineering adventure? As our Product Development Engineer, you'll:

Be the wizard behind the curtain, conjuring up new products and giving existing ones a magical makeover to delight our customers! Channel your inner Picasso to craft product design guidelines and customer standards that are true works of art. Don your superhero cape and swoop in to provide technical support to our organizational sidekicks and external allies.

Join forces with cross-functional Avengers to map out epic product and technology quests. Transform into a master storyteller, weaving technical tales in proposals and presentations that will leave our customers spellbound. Put on your detective hat and conduct thrilling patent investigations, then pen technical documents worthy of a bestseller.

Be the Sherlock Holmes of product-related mysteries, cracking cases and presenting brilliant solutions to the Engineering Manager or Director. Become a components whisperer, communicating with suppliers about specifications, manufacturing techniques, and materials that are so cutting-edge, they're practically from the future.

Embrace your inner safety guru and participate in all EHS programs with the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. Be a Jedi master to your Padawans, mentoring junior-level technologists in the ways of the Engineering Force. Show off your company spirit by demonstrating behaviors so consistent with policies, you could win "Employee of the Millennium."

Be ready to tackle any mission that comes your way – because in this role, the only constant is fun!

    Qualifications:

Are you ready to join our league of extraordinary engineers? Here's what you'll need in your utility belt:

A shiny Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electromechanical Engineering (or an equally impressive equivalent). No time travelers from the future, please! 2-4 years of post-graduate experience. That's like 730-1460 days of leveling up your engineering skills! English communication skills so excellent, you could explain quantum mechanics to a golden retriever. (We'll test this superpower in your interview!)

SolidWorks 3D modeling skills that would make Tony Stark jealous. Bonus points if you can recite GD&T and ANSI/ASME standards in your sleep! A brain packed with knowledge of engineering mechanics, material properties, physics, and manufacturing methods. Think "Big Bang Theory" level of nerdiness, but cooler.

Electrical theory know-how that would impress Tesla himself, especially in signal transmission, characterization, and signal integrity. The ability to see through walls... well, not really, but you should understand how mechanical designs affect electrical functions/performance. Six Sigma skills so sharp, you could cut through red tape with them. FMEA experience is like having an extra superpower!

Finite Element Analysis skills (structural, thermal & fluid) that would make you the life of any engineering party. EM and RF simulation experience that's out of this world. Literally, it could help us communicate with aliens (okay, maybe not, but it's still awesome). IC test socket or electrical connector design experience? That's like finding the cherry on top of your already impressive sundae of skills!

Patent experience is the secret sauce that could take you from superhero to legend status. Attention to detail so intense, you could spot a needle in a haystack... while blindfolded... on a rollercoaster. Problem-solving skills worthy of Sherlock Holmes, with a data-driven approach that would make even Watson jealous.

Microsoft Office skills so slick, you could create a PowerPoint presentation in your sleep (but please don't, we value work-life balance). A willingness to travel 0-20% of the time. Think of it as occasional field trips for grown-ups! If you're a US citizen or permanent resident, that's great! If not, no worries – we're equal opportunity awesome-seekers.

Remember, in this role, the only constant is fun! So bring your A-game, your sense of humor, and maybe a cape (optional, but highly encouraged). Let's make engineering magic together! Additional Information We believe that different perspectives and backgrounds are what make a company flourish. All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration for employment regardless of color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, economic status, disability, age, or any other legally protected characteristics. We are proud to be an inclusive company with values grounded in equality and ethics, where we celebrate, support, and embrace diversity.

At no time during the hiring process will Smiths Group, nor any of our recruitment partners ever request payment to enable participation – including, but not limited to, interviews or testing. Avoid fraudulent requests by applying jobs directly through our career’s website (Careers - Smiths Group plc)
