Description:
Gateway SRA is looking for warm, enthusiastic, and patient individuals interested in being summer camp counselors for children with special needs. Counselors are individuals looking to develop career-building skills such as leadership, communication, problem-solving and relationship management abilities. Duties:
Supervision and safety:
Actively monitoring campers during all activities including mealtimes, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and responding to any accidents or emergencies.
Group management:
- Maintaining order and positive group dynamics, resolving minor conflicts, and providing guidance to campers.
Communication:
Regularly updating Site Supervisor on camper progress, addressing concerns, and maintaining open communication.
Recordkeeping:
- Maintaining attendance logs, activity reports, and documenting incidents and behaviors
Staff collaboration:
Working effectively with other counselors and camp staff to deliver a cohesive program and a positive and inclusive camp environment
Requirements:
Desirable Experience:
Enjoys being in the company of children specifically with special needs Ability to participate in active outdoor and indoor activities and supervise children in a variety of settings Ability to educate and mentor campers in a fun and engaging manner Ability to work independently and with others Problem solver
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and campers, provide feedback, and address concerns to supervisors
Patience and positive attitude and the ability to manage challenging situations with children and maintain a positive demeanor First aid knowledge basic understanding of first aid procedures to respond to minor injuries
Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years old Ability to pass a background check First Aid and CPR (will provide training if needed)
