Job Details Job Location: New Canaan, CT 06840 Salary Range: $16.94 Hourly
GENERAL FUNCTION:
To ensure the safety and well-being of a group of 3 to 5 years old in a summer camp environment. Responsible for planning and implementation of a variety of activities as designated by the Directors.
KNOW-HOW:
Must be at least 16 years of age. Previous camp experience and/or related experience with children are necessary.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
To be a role model for the participant while demonstrating the YMCA Four Core Values of Honesty, Responsibility, Respect, and Caring. Arrive at camp 15 minutes before the camp day begins and remain 15 minutes after the end of camp, unless otherwise instructed by Directors. Attend all camp staff trainings and meetings. Complete all required paperwork and trainings.
General supervision and responsibility for all campers assigned to you. Actively participate in all areas of the camp day: aquatics, arts and crafts, games, storytelling, singing, nature, and special events. Must be able to carry out various curriculum per director. Must be prepared to assist in swim lessons/free swim when needed.
- Maintain a firm, yet safe environment for campers.
- Demonstrate proper attitude and enthusiasm towards camp and encourage participation in activities.
- Help foster the intellectual, social, and physical growth of campers by providing a meaningful and enjoyable camp experience.
Care and proper storage of all equipment and supplies. Set a good example to campers by respecting rules, showing respect for the out-of-doors, and dressing appropriately. Maintain good public relations with parents/campers/other staff members. Must be team player and showcase a positive attitude with colleagues.
- Perform other duties as designated by head counselors, assistant director, and director.

- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Children will enjoy a well-rounded camp experience and will grow physically, mentally and spiritually through varied activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to: climb, kneel, reach, push, swim, balance, crouch, stand, pull, grasp, repetitive motions, navigate stairs, stop, walk, lift a child, talk, hear, and sit. The employee may occasionally need to exercise these physical labor demands: Exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force frequently.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/far vision, ability to adjust focus, peripheral vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Acute hearing is essential to this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
In this position, this person will be frequently required to work in outside weather conditions including: wet and/or humid environment, moderate/extreme noise, heat and cold. This person will also be required to be in the pool daily.
