Job Description The Montgomery College, Germantown, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member for teaching a course in Sustainable Landscape Design. The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion. During the academic year part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year. During summer part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hour) for both sessions combined. Duties and Responsibilities: The Environmental Horticulture and Sustainable Agribusiness Program (HORT) is currently seeking a candidate to teach a course in Sustainable Landscape Design. The key qualifications include: The course is to be offered during the spring semester at the Germantown campus, with the flexibility for it to be taught as a hybrid, fully in-person, or fully online course. Proven Landscape Design Experience: The candidate must have a solid background in landscape design, backed by evidence of outstanding design skills. Focus on People and Environment: Their design approach should clearly demonstrate how their work benefits both human users and the surrounding ecosystem. Site Analysis Expertise: Proficiency in performing comprehensive site analyses is crucial, as this is a fundamental step in sustainable design. Native Plant Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of native ornamental plants, including their identification and usage in design, is a must. This aligns perfectly with sustainable principles. Strong Communication Skills: Given the need to convey complex design concepts and interact with students, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Required Qualifications: AA degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. Four years of employment and/or two years of teaching experience (including part-time teaching) in environmental science, horticulture, agriculture or related field. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
