The Deputy Forest Program Director will play a pivotal leadership role in advancing forest conservation and Indigenous rights, overseeing key campaigns and research initiatives while supporting strategic program management. This role requires a combination of advocacy expertise, management skills, and cross-cultural collaboration. You will guide teams, coordinate multi-regional projects, and engage with partners, stakeholders, and financial institutions to drive impactful forest protection efforts. Your work will contribute directly to protecting biodiversity, advancing sustainable practices, and ensuring alignment with organizational mission and strategic objectives.

    Accountabilities:

    · Supervise campaign and research leads, delegate responsibilities, and support team capacity and pace. · Partner with public engagement teams on communications, digital, and organizing strategies. · Engage in corporate negotiations with financial institutions, brands, and forest-risk companies. · Represent the organization publicly and in media engagements, while maintaining coalition partnerships.

    · Support fundraising efforts, including proposal development, reporting, and funder engagement. · Manage external contractors and ensure projects meet quality, budget, and compliance standards. · Minimum of 10 years of experience working on forest conservation issues. · At least 10 years of experience in campaigning, including developing and implementing successful advocacy initiatives.

    · Minimum of 5 years of experience managing staff and teams in advocacy or nonprofit settings. · Proven leadership in directing complex projects across multiple teams and geographies. · Strong skills in financial, supply chain, and/or investigative research. · Detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving and independent work abilities.

    · Excellent oral and written communication skills. · Minimum of 5 years’ experience in budget management. · Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including international trips. · Preferred: Experience working with Indigenous or frontline communities, tropical forest regions (e.g., Indonesia, Brazil), and cross-cultural teams; language skills in relevant local languages; experience leading corporate negotiations.

    Benefits:

    · Competitive salary range: $115,000–$125,000 USD, commensurate with experience and location. · Remote work with flexible hours to connect across time zones. · Health, dental, and vision insurance (staff and partners/family coverage in the US). · Retirement plan with employer match; pension/retirement reimbursements for international staff.

    · Four weeks of PTO (increases to five weeks after two years), plus paid winter break and a 12-week paid sabbatical every 5 years. · Professional development, networking, and global collaboration opportunities.
