Meter Technician At Inframark, our Meter Technicians are responsible for working on a route to accurately read meters and repairing/replacing as needed. This position will require you to work outside in all weather conditions performing work related to the reading, installation, inspection, testing, and repair or replacement of water meters.
Responsibilities:
Locates and reads residential/commercial utility meters on assigned routes within designated timeframes; drives a utility truck to conduct meter-reading activities. Replace water meters based on provided work orders and verify all numbers match on house, meter, mxu and work orders. Reads utility meters; records meter data by entering data into a computer meter reading device ; records data and confirms accuracy of readings; and downloads/uploads meter data between a portable device and a computer system for use in billing of accounts.
Responds to service calls, customer inquiries, and complaints. · Program new meters when installed, and reprogram existing meters as needed. Services, repairs, installs, removes, and/or replaces meters and associated equipment.
- Tests meters for proper operations and accurate readings; checks water pressure; reports problems or faulty equipment to supervisor.
Connects, disconnects, or reconnects utility service as appropriate. Obtains water samples for mandatory testing; obtains samples for customers as requested.
- Assists in performing customer service functions as needed. · Inform supervisor of any customer service issues immediately.
- Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles and equipment in operable condition.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Attend safety classes, reinforce, and comply with company safety policies. Work harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving meter reading, general maintenance work, customer service, or vehicle operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.
Skills:
Must possess good oral and written communications skills. Basic computer skills and knowledge required. Abilities Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time and enjoy working outdoors. Work outdoors through rough terrain and travel in inclement weather. Be able to climb fences and frequently bend over to work in utility access areas.
Working conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.
Physical requirements This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis.
The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
