    Summary:

    The Summer Co-Lead Chaperones / Co-Lead Dorm Resident Advisors will lead a team of 8 to 10 chaperones in ensuring student safety and creating an engaging environment for pre-professional dancers residing at the University of St. Thomas dormitory. Houston Ballet houses 130+ students in this dormitory for the duration of the Summer Intensive Program. Co-Lead Chaperones will begin part-time, preseason, virtual administration work totaling no more than 6 hours a week beginning the week of May 18th with the in-person seasonal position beginning on June 15th. All chaperones will move into the dormitory approximately one week prior to the start of the program and participate in a comprehensive orientation and training with Houston Ballet Academy Staff and partner organizations. Co-Lead Chaperones need to be available for part-time virtual work beginning on May 18th, and in-person work in Houston from Monday, June 15th – Saturday, July 25th, 2026.

    Requirements:

    Co-Lead Chaperones need to be available for part-time virtual work beginning on May 18th, and in-person work in Houston from Monday, June 15th – Saturday, July 25th, 2026. This is a live-in position – you will live in a private room with a private bathroom at the University of St. Thomas dormitory and supervise students 7 days a week for the 5-week program. 1.5 weekdays per week are allotted for off-days. The chaperone training period will begin one week prior to student arrival on Saturday, June 15th.

    This position also includes part-time virtual work beginning on May 18th. This work will total no more than 6 hours a week and can be completed on a flex-schedule. Summer chaperones must be 21 years of age or older by June 15th, 2026. Chaperones with a valid license and a clean driving record will be expected to transport students in a 15-passenger van.

    All applicants are subject to a background check.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Including the following, other duties may be assigned.

    Student & Dormitory Supervision:

    • Lead a team of summer chaperones to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all students (approximately 20 students per chaperone).
    • Oversee student move-in (6/15) and move-out (7/24–25), including dorm check-in, room assignments, and final check-out.
    • Implement and supervise evening and weekend activities both on campus and off-site (e.g., excursions to waterparks, malls, museums). Transport students as needed using the chaperone vehicle.
    • Enforce Houston Ballet Academy dormitory policies; address and document behavioral infractions in collaboration with Academy staff.
    • Conduct individual check-ins with students as needed.

    Accompany and supervise students during doctor’s visits and other off-campus needs with discretion and professionalism.

    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student personal and medical information.

    Leadership & Team Coordination:

    • Assist with scheduling and delegation of chaperone duties.

    Serve as a point of contact (POC) for chaperones regarding:

    Daily/weekly schedules, cafeteria duty, and pool supervision. On-call responsibilities, including student check-outs and student illness/injuries. Transportation logistics (bus, van, grocery runs, airport days, and Sunday excursions). UST facilities, maintenance, and parking needs.

    • Lead daily chaperone briefings and weekly staff meetings; record and distribute meeting notes.

    Approve family communication emails drafted by chaperones. Respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations.

    Administrative & Communication:

    • Manage and organize student life documentation through Google Drive (schedules, sign-ups, signage).

    Co-administer and monitor communication through the Band app, ensuring calendars, reminders, and updates are posted accurately.

    • Collaborate and communicate regularly with Houston Ballet Academy staff, University of St. Thomas staff, chaperones, students, and families.
    • Maintain a financial log of all summer chaperone & dormitory expenses and receipts.
    • Participate in student and chaperone orientation sessions and lead end-of-program student meeting.

    Represent the chaperone team professionally. Other duties as assigned by Houston Ballet. Dormitory Policies Students residing in the UST dormitory must be supervised at all times – the residential team must not leave the dormitory when they are on-duty or on-call. Houston Ballet Academy does not tolerate the use of alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, drugs, or illicit substances. All persons involved with the Academy including dancers, students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff are required to obey the law and refrain from providing alcoholic beverages, drugs, and/or illicit substances at any location but not limited to private homes, the Center for Dance, and any other properties affiliated with Houston Ballet including the University of St. Thomas dormitory.

    Pets are not permitted in UST or the Houston Ballet Center for Dance building.

    Training Provided by Houston Ballet Includes:

    Comprehensive training on expectations and responsibilities via the chaperone handbook CPR and First Aid certification Sexual Abuse Awareness Training Mental Health First Aid

    Qualifications:

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    Must be 21 years of age or older. Strong understanding and desire to work with adolescent children. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to provide supervision in a responsible, caring, and respectful manner and serve as a role model. Must be available to sleep in residence.

    Experience as a live-in Residential Assistant:

    Experience working with adolescents ages 12 – 17:

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Management experience.

    Experience working at a summer program/camp.:

    Ability to handle high-stress and/or unexpected situations and circumstances. A valid driver's license and willingness to drive a 15-passenger van.

    Experience with, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Band app, and Canva.:

    Compensation / Accommodations:

    Compensation of $750 per week for the 6 weeks of in-person work, plus housing and two meals daily. Any part-time virtual work to be compensated at $15 an hour.:

    Chaperones have a private room and bathroom equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, and wi-fi. Breakfast and dinner each workday. Stipend for personal phone usage and activities/meals while chaperoning students.

    Work Environment:

    University of St. Thomas dormitory, private room with private bathroom. Moderate noise (examples: students in dorm, business office with computers and printers, light traffic) Monday –Sunday, 24-hour flex shift. This is an active role that might require long periods of physical activity, late nights, and early mornings.
