Retail Associate & Tour Guide

This role is onsite and based at Widow Jane Distillery in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Schedule: Wednesday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Saturday-Sunday, 11am-7pm

What the Role Is

The Retail Associate/Tour Guide will be responsible for escorting individuals and groups on tours or through Widow Jane Distillery. This position is specifically responsible for hosting tours and tastings while providing information about our products, heritage, and industry. This position is also responsible for handling bottle and merchandise transactions in the distillery shop.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

• Describe tour points of interest to group members, and respond to questions
• Escort individuals or groups on public and private tours for groups up to10 people. Each tour is roughly an hour long with tours hosted Thursday through Sunday.
• Act as an educator by providing unique and important facts to inform the visitor’s curiosity.
• Monitor visitors’ activities to ensure compliance with establishment or tour regulations and safety practices.
• Provide directions and other pertinent information to visitors.
• Research various topics, including site history, environmental conditions, and client’s skills and abilities to plan appropriate expeditions, instruction, and commentary.
• Assist customers with purchases in the distillery shop, handling credit cards and cash with best practices.
• Maintaining guest satisfaction and providing excellent hospitality and customer service.
• Restocking inventory and maintaining a clean retail environment.
• All other duties as required.

Who You Are…

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year experience in customer service; hospitality/tourism strongly preferred
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
• Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to talk to others to convey information effectively
• Service Orientation – actively looking for ways to help people
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel and Outlook
• Available to work weekends
• Ability to work in a team and be a self-starter

Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:

• Some college coursework completed
• Familiarity with whiskey knowledge

In New York, the expected compensation range for this role is $21.00 per hour. Actual starting pay may differ based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
