    Description:

    Looking for a great opportunity to work in Outdoor Recreation? H.A.R.D. is expanding its Outdoor Recreation Program, and we’re seeking an Outdoor Recreation Lead to help launch and operate the challenge-course experiences at Rowell Ranch—facilitating safe, memorable high- and low-element days for youth, schools, community groups, and families.

    Join H.A.R.D.’s growing Outdoor Recreation team as we launch challenge-course experiences at Rowell Ranch. We’re looking for a field leader who pairs excellent facilitation with rock-solid technical judgment. The ideal candidate holds a current ACCT Level II certification, leads with “challenge by choice,” communicates clearly at height and on the ground, and keeps programs flowing from set-up to wrap-up. You’re comfortable serving as the on-site technical lead when needed; keeping rescue readiness sharp; and knowing when to pause or modify activities for safety. You’re organized about daily inspections, gear checks, and compliance documentation; practiced with belay systems and life-safety equipment; and skilled at mentoring facilitators to create positive, equitable group experiences. You carry First Aid/CPR/AED and a valid CA driver license, thrive outdoors (including at height), and can flex to mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as programs demand.

    Here are the details about the positions:

    Available positions: 1 Hourly Rate: $29.06/hour - $39.22 /hour Work Schedule: 20-hours/week Part-Time, Year-round, Hourly, Non-Exempt Position Anticipated Start Date: ASAP Hours not to exceed 960 hours per fiscal year.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator II, the Outdoor Recreation Lead will provide instruction with assistance from Outdoor Recreation Instructors to students 10 to 13 years of age at various sites throughout the District. The position will adhere to outdoor recreation curriculum which includes non-traditional sport activities such as pickleball, hiking, biking, kayaking, and dodgeball. This position will require you to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

    Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for leading programming duties, but may also perform general duties to assist in outdoor programming. This class can be distinguished from the class of Outdoor Recreation Instructor because incumbents in this class have program/curriculum lesson planning responsibilities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Incumbents may not perform all duties. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

    • Create lesson plans for non-traditional sport programming
    • Conducts programming for youth as part of the outdoor programming
    • Ensure safety and proper technique of participants while in the program
    • Follow an age appropriate curriculum for participants
    • Assist in completion of required reports or any necessary paperwork

    Encourage skill development and self-confidence through progression of skills

    • Provide a high level of customer service to parents and participants

    Exercise precautions necessary to ensure the safety of participants

    • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers

    Attends job specific trainings

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. The functions of this position are primarily performed outdoors at various District locations. The setting includes various weather conditions, including heat and sunshine. Incumbents must wear an appropriate uniform with identification and protective equipment. Specialized aspects of the work environment may also include high noise levels, working with participants who are using potentially dangerous sport equipment and in environments that will require supervision. Incumbents may be assigned an irregular working schedule including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays and may have to travel between various locations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have: hearing and speech adequate to communicate in person, by telephone, by PA system and by radio, and to speak loudly in a noisy setting; vision adequate to clearly distinguish objects and persons at a distance, bodily movement adequate to frequently sit, stand, walk, run, jump, climb, reach, turn, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crawl, and push/pull; ability to raise arms above shoulder height; manual dexterity adequate to grasp objects, use fine manipulation, write and operate office machines and equipment; strength and endurance to perform lifting and carrying of items up to 50 pounds.

    Qualifications:

    Ability and Skill to:

    At least 18 years of age Must be able to possibly work mornings, evenings, and weekends Possess or obtain by date of employment valid certification in CPR and First Aid Attend orientation training Must have reliable transportation

    • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work

    Knowledge of:

    Ability to work independently with minimum supervision Ability to create and maintain an exciting atmosphere Ability to exercise good judgment and deal with the public effectively Ability to follow written and oral instructions

    Education/Experience/Training:

    HS Diploma Some previous experience with outdoor recreation is desirable Must possess current certificates for CPR & First Aid, or the ability to get upon employment. and must maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of continued employment

    Special Requirements:

    • Provide proof of negative TB Skin Test

    Any offer of employment to an adult employee who will have direct contact with minors is conditional upon a satisfactory fingerprint clearance and background check (DOJ) Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Possession of a valid CA Driver’s License
