Job Description
SUMMARY
Resort Pool Lifeguards provide a welcoming environment for Grand Traverse Resort and Spa guests, members, and residents within all pool areas. This position ensures guest and member safety by enforcing pool rules, promptly addressing potential hazards, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. Lifeguards constantly surveil the pool area and respond proactively to hazardous and emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Respond and aid distressed persons using rescue techniques and equipment, contacting emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury
Monitor pools and surrounding recreation areas to detect hazards, disturbances, safety infractions, and enforce pool rules
Maintain cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas
Maintain an open line of communication with the supervisor and all management
Relay guest concerns to management or appropriate administrator
Be knowledgeable about the Resort, Club, and Spa facilities to encourage member recognition and loyalty
Maintain excellent service oriented relationships when working with internal and external customers
Ensure personal accountability for all work duties, assignments, and performance expectations
Provide and receive feedback in a positive manner; earn respect by consistently displaying a positive attitude and working cooperatively with others
Ensure work is completed in a safe manner, conscious of standard operating procedures, and use of personal protective equipment
Adhere to uniform and personal appearance standards set forth by the Employee Handbook
Exemplify and model the GTRS Core Values
Adhere to and ensure employee accountability for GTRS policies, procedures, and standards; comply with all workplace health and safety operating and reporting procedures including OSHA and MIOSHA

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
15 years of age or older with a valid certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, American Red Cross Community or Professional C.P.R., and American Red Cross Standard First Aid, or ability to obtain within three months of employment
GTRS is willing to provide training and certify or recertify upon hiring, if needed
TYPICAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to swim and exert great amounts of energy during water rescues or pool maintenance activities
Quickly move arms, hands, and fingers to grasp; manipulate and assemble objects, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or stand for long periods of time
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and on rare situations, up to 150 lbs with or without assistance
See objects at close range and at a distance
Comprehend and follow directions
Effectively handle stressful and difficult situations/interactions while remaining focused and professional
Identify complex problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions
Read and interpret documents such as handbooks, reports, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Perform complex or varied tasks under deadlines and tight schedules
Work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines; last minute requests and changes will occur at any time
Maintain eye contact and engage with internal and external guests in a courteous and professional manner
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to humid conditions, pool chemicals and/or chlorinated water
Moderate to loud work environment
Fast-paced environment
Walking required as employee parking locations vary season to season
Flexible schedule, willing to adjust and work evenings, weekends, and an occasional holiday
