Overview The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and enriching camp experience for youth participants at the Foundation YMCA. Counselors lead daily activities, foster positive relationships, model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and ensure a fun and inclusive environment for all campers. This position plays a key role in delivering a high-quality summer camp program that supports social, emotional, and physical development.

Responsibilities:
Supervise and engage a group of campers in daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Lead or assist with camp programming, including games, arts and crafts, sports, swimming, STEM activities, special events, and field trips.
- Build positive, age-appropriate relationships with campers, parents/guardians, and fellow staff.
Model and reinforce YMCA core values and behavior expectations.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of camp schedules, lesson plans, and activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with campers and parents/guardians, including sharing daily highlights and addressing concerns.
- Manage camper behavior using positive guidance techniques and proactive strategies.
Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, following YMCA safety standards and training.
- Maintain clean and organized program areas, equipment, and supplies.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Leadership.
Qualifications:
Minimum age: 18 years old Prior experience working with children in a camp, school, or youth program setting preferred. Ability to lead groups in a variety of activities, both indoors and outdoors. Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be dependable, responsible, and enthusiastic.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp begins). Ability to positively engage campers of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Ability to supervise children in the pool. Commitment to upholding the mission and values of the Foundation YMCA.
