HIRING RANGE: $20.00 - $28.00/hour JOB SUMMARY: The Washington Heights Art Center is seeking an Visual Art Instructor to teach raku kiln firing methods. Our ideal instructor is passionate
about:
art, craft, self-motivated, well-organized, and creative. This role mainly involves working with adults help them develop their creativity and boost ceramic and raku knowledge. Shifts will be discussed during the interview process. Occasional evening and weekend workshops and events maybe required.

Essential Job Functions: Instruct, encourage, support, and lead students in classes/workshops that fosters positive self-expression, and builds self-esteem and personal growth; Engage and interact in a positive manner with visitors at community events; Create lesson plans that are exciting and

Essential Qualifications:
Must be 21 years of age or older Ability to use a raku kiln and guide students though a raku firing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, and participants. Ability to develop engaging and inclusive curriculum;
Experience:
- leading or assisting with art programs/activities;
Experience:
- leading or assisting groups of varying sizes; Effectively support students of all skill and ability levels; Ability to motivate and inspire students to thrive in groups and on their own; Have good classroom management; Have an understanding of classroom supply safety; Have good communication

A 2 or 4-year degree in Fine Arts, Art, or Art

Required Certifications: A valid CPR/AED certificate or in the process and completed by the start of employment. Pay Range $14.81-$57.41 Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions. The city pays the cost of this coverage. Pension Our pension fund is a social security replacement, money purchase plan. Mandatory employee contribution is 11% of gross base salary; city contribution is 13% of gross base salary. Sick Leave Full-time employees earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees earn 6 hours per month.
Vacation Full-time employees with less than five years of service earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees with less than five years of service earn 6 hours per month. City Holidays Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
